Our list of most helpful free applications for developers and non developers
-
Paint.NET Paint.NET is free image and photo manipulation software designed to be used on computers that run Windows. It supports layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools. What I like about this application? It is small and yet much more powerful and convenient than build-in Windows Paint. Very often you don't need huge applications as Photoshop to do some work, but you need more features than Pain has.
-
ConTEXT ConTEXT is small, fast and powerful text editor developed to serve to software developers. What I like about this editor? It allows me to find and replace strings in more than one file. I can open a lot of files and then do replacement in all of them easily. Also it makes work with html or other formats convenient using different colors for comments, code and functions. Very powerful editor, macros and more in a small application.

Beyond Compare 2 Beyond Compare is a utility for comparing things. Things like text files, folders, zip archives, FTP sites, etc. Use it to manage source code, keep folders in sync, compare program output, and validate CD copies. What I like about this one? It made my job so much easier when I need to find out a difference between the files or folders! Now I cannot imagine working without it.
-
Picture Resizer An easy-to-use and free tool for batch resizing of JPG pictures and photos. What I like about this picture resizer? Just imagine you need to resize a hundreds images to one size. Will you do it one by one using some picture editor? It can take huge amount of time. With this resizer I can just drag and drop bunch of images on a resizer shortcut on my desktop. It still has one bug. though: on my computer it gives me an error when I try to resize more than 20 images at once. So I do it 20 by 20!

FileZilla FileZilla Client is a fast and reliable cross-platform FTP, FTPS and SFTP client with lots of useful features and an intuitive graphical user interface. What I like about this FTP client? It is simple, convenient and it is free!
How to Create PDFs in Office 2007
One thing Office 2007 programs can do that the 2003 versions can’t is convert files to PDFs.
by Dana Wollman on September 22, 2008

One thing Office 2007 programs can do that the 2003 versions can’t is convert files to PDFs. But first, you’ll have to install an add-in that allows you to do this.
- Click the home button, then Save As, then “Find
add-ins for other file formats.”
- Go to this site to download an add-in that will allow
you to save Office 2007 files as PDF
or XPS files: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/

When prompted, click Save File. Then follow the onscreen instructions and restart the program.

Hint for those who have problems while installing Windows on computer with ICH9R
Let me first describe the symptoms:
You try to clean-install Windows on a new motherboard and want to use RAID DRIVER for ICH9R.
As usual, you press key #F6. Then when Windows asks you to insert the floppy disk with RAID Drivers, you insert a prepared floppy disk with drivers. After some time passes, Windows gives you the message that it cannot copy the file. You then create another floppy disk, thinking that the floppy disk was probably defective. You then try again and again but the result is a "no go." So, by this time, you are somewhat frustrated and you now take a shot of vodka and start to Google the problem. Right?
If your scenario is close to the one described above, rest assured that you are on the right track
and in the right place and you will be able to run your Windows Set-up easily and in no time. The solution is to know the secret which I will now share with you.
The solution to this problem is simple. You just have to make the right floppy disk. (Now, isn't that simple?)
Once upon a time, we had an image of floppy for download. Since we now know that the problem is that we did not use the right floppy disk, we will now solve this problem by making the correct floppy disk in the following way. Please note that you do not need any other files than those you already have. You just need to make some changes.
First of all, if you do not have a floppy disk with ICH9R Drivers, make it using the utility that came with your motherboard. However, if you do not have the utility, then download it from your motherboard support website and use it to make the floppy disk that you need. Then, when you have the proper floppy disk with the necessary drivers on it, you just need to create some folders and copy your files in the following manner:
1. Create directory $OEM$ on a floppy.
2. Open directory $OEM$ and create directory TEXTMODE
3. Check that your floppy has directories structure like A:\$OEM$\TEXTMODE
4. Copy the next files from the root directory on a floppy disk to the directory TEXTMODE as described below:
iaahci.cat
iaahci.inf
iastor.cat
iastor.inf
iastor.sys
txtsetup.oem
JUST ONE CAUTION: YOU NEED TO COPY THE FILES and NOT JUST MOVE THEM !
You can contact me if you have further questions.
If you don't want to have any hassle you can download the archived files of these drivers and just unpack it on a floppy.
Now, wasn't that easy? I'm glad that I was able to help you. GOOD LUCK !
